Nutrition – Healthy and Tasty Porridge Mix

Future LifeI have been asked to provide the recipe for my breakfast porridge mix. It is extremely quick and easy to make,  about as healthful as you can get and tastes so good I often have it more than once a day!

Ingredients:-

  • Future Life (AlphaPharm Pharmacies, Checkers, Clicks, DisChem, selected Health Shops, Pick N Pay, Shoprite and selected Spar Stores nationwide in 500g box and 50g sachets.
  • Tia’s Sugar-Free Raisin-Free Muesli in 1kg packets (5 Ways Spar)
  • Low Fat Plain Unsweetened Yogurt
  • Trumps Cocoa Powder (unsweetened)
  • Stevia Liquid Sweetener (Walmer Spar, Natures Own Pharmacy, Health Shops)

The cocoa powder also helps keep those chocolate cravings at bay, and I put it in one of those stainless steel sprinklers/shakers one can get from the Crazy Store. Unfortunately I am caffeine intolerant so substitute it with Carob powder which is in any event healthier.

Future LifeStevia is the only sweetener that is not harmful in any way, and actually helps protect your teeth!

Both Future Life and Tia’s Muesli are wheat free, high in protein and Low GI.

To prepare, place 50 grams of Future Life and 50 grams of Tia’s Muesli in a bowl, mix with a little of either water (lower carb) or milk to a thick consistency, and sweeten with Stevia to taste (I use about 24 drops). Cover porridge with about 50 grams of the yogurt and again sweeten with Stevia. Sprinkle a generous amount of of the cocoa/carob powder over the top and enjoy!

On the evening before an event, I use sweetened low fat apricot yogurt instead for a bit of carbo-loading as well as to ensure I go to the loo properly in the morning (also some prunes help for this).
